The First Ever Gearheads for Kids Goes Off Without a Hitch!
Gearheads for Kids presented by Psiphon began the same way all great events are born. Out of a dare and a little friendly competition.
In January of 2020 two of Amici's most committed volunteers were at a mentorship retreat for previous Amici campers when they watched a short documentary about the Baffin Crew biking around Lake Ontario in the winter. They were both impressed and inspired, and that was when the fateful words were spoken: "you won't do it." And with that, Gearheads for Kids was born.
This year’s forest ever Gearheads for Kids is a long-distance bike ride totalling 1,207 km, completed in 6 gruelling days, by 5 dedicated camping advocates to raise funds for Amici Camping Charity. The bike ride taking the shape of a loop from Toronto to Montreal and back took place from August 30th to September 4th, 2020.
Along the way the Gearheads raised over $15,000 for Amici campers through the support of family, friends and both Gearheads for Kids sponsors: Psiphon (presenting sponsor) and Mattamy Homes (Pedal Sponsor).
